Osteopathy Services

Osteopathy is a safe, effective and natural system of health care that uses an established, recognised system of diagnosis and treatment. It's main emphasis is centred on the body's physical structure and how it is coping with the demands and rigours of daily life. It is distinctive in that it recognises that many ailments are caused by irregularities in the function of the body structure as well as damage caused by actual diseases. For the Osteopath, therefore, the physical integrity of the whole body is seen as one of the most important factors in health and disease.

Conditions, injuries and complaints commonly treated including, but not limited to:

  • Back and neck pain/stiffness
  • Knee and shoulder injuries
  • Sports injuries
  • Postural problems
  • Arthritis/joint pain
  • Tendonitis
  • Headaches
  • Treatment techniques

Osteopaths use their hands to relieve pain and discomfort through soft tissue massage and manipulative techniques. Exercises to release stiff joints and muscles can also be incorporated into the treatment plan. Whether you have suffered a recent injury, have a long term back problem or are experiencing backache due to pregnancy, an Osteopath can usually help the condition by relaxing the muscles and improving the range and quality of movement of the joints involved.

An important concept that has evolved during the 135 year history of Osteopathic Medicine is that of treating patients and their illnesses in a holistic manner. Osteopaths are taught to treat the whole patient, not just the disease; they consider a patient's lifestyle and previous history, and aim to provide a personalised approach in their care and treatment plans.
